TWIN COMETS?
There has been a lot of wondering going on with these two objects that hit the sun.
Are they comets?
For those of you who can not view the the movie the following pictures have been displayed so that you may get an idea of how this occured.
You may view many fascinating movies from the LASCO/SOHO home page.
You will need an MPEG player to view some of the movies that are offered.
Some are also in Active Movie which should be with your Windows 95 program.

Pretty strange looking for a comet , eh?
![]()

Because of the extensive work that it takes to examine frame after frame concentration will be on the closest T shaped object. Notice the formation.
![]()

These are the Lasco images done frame by frame so you can get an idea of how they approached the sun.
Notice the one on the left has a distinctive T shape.
![]()

Here are the two objects at a little closer view. You can see the T shaped one a bit better here.
![]()

Although it may be hard to see there is a swirling action. If you view the film you can actually see the spin.
![]()

In this picture we can see a much larger view. Maybe some comet experts out there can explain the odd shape.
Both of these objects had a T shape, but the one to the right seemed to be traveling first, and is more distant.
As they get closer to the sun they seem to get further away from one another and the tops become more rounded.
![]()

You can see in this caption how the top has changed. Also, you can see a screw type shape to this object. Perhaps this is from the spin.
![]()

In this picture you can see the objects getting closer to the sun. What do they look like to you?
I am told it is a very rare event to have two comets at the same time.
![]()

Notice the top object making a sharp left turn into the sun.
I also want you to now keep an eye on the sun flars. At this time they are pretty normal.
At four o'clock you can see a bright flare.
Also, you will notice that the objects seem to be traveling at different speeds now.
The top one seems to be going faster.
![]()

Where I have the arrow you can see a ghost of the first object just about ready to hit the sun.
![]()

Now in this image the objects has disappeared into the sun.
Take note of the sun flares at this time. At seven o'clock you can seem some activity.
![]()

Now you can begin to see the flare changes. The first will happen at seven o'clock.
The next at about five o'clock.
![]()

Both flares have changed now. You can see the how they both have become explosive.
![]()

Now you can see the right flare begin to enlarge and the left start to dissipate.
![]()

A massive eruption occurs.
![]()

Notice the twirl of the explosion.
![]()

I am very curious how long it takes for the magnetic waves to travel.
The earth would have to be in a direct line of these waves to be effected.
We are just learning all the connections between Earth, Sun, earthqukes, and volcanos.
![]()

Finally the ejected trauma from the sun starts receding.

As Spock would say.....FASCINATING!
